Image a Day project reaches halfway point

by isleofman.com 8th July 2014

Artist Juan Moore has reached a milestone: the halfway point in his Image a Day blog for Island of Culture.

On the day when he had just uploaded his 182nd image he said: ‘The project has been running now since January 1st and the blog seems to attract anywhere from around 75 to 200 views a day with most people genuinely seeming to like the daily dose of surreal/weird/odd/crazy art I'm inflicting on the world.

‘At present the blog’s had more than 20,000 views from all over the world. I’ve just uploaded image 182 and it very much feels like I'm halfway there. The project has tested me more than I thought it would. Through my work as an illustrator I'm used to working to tight deadlines and as a fine artist I'm used to producing large bodies of work, but the unrelenting nature of the blog is something I was perhaps a bit naive about when I first pitched the project. Throw into the fact that I'm not only creating an image a day for this project, but I've also had plenty of illustration work, which is great, preparing work for two exhibitions and teaching part time at the Isle of Man College, I very much feel like I eat, breath and sleep art at the moment and it's great.’

Of his 182nd image he said: ‘I wanted to do a piece about the pressures of producing an original artwork every day. I'm often asked: “How do you come up with an idea every day?” Well, I'm not going to lie, some days are harder than others; sometimes I'll do an image and the next idea will continue from that theme or sometimes a walk or a conversation with someone will inspire an image.

‘I'm also asked: “What will you do if you can't think of something?” I genuinely hope not to find out, though with another 182 images to go, who knows where they will take me? The first half of the project has pushed me a long ways in terms of how I make art. I started painting, as that's my background, then I went into digital, something I'd been itching to do. I even got to do some print making, which I love but haven't done since I was a student. So, like I said, who knows what's next?’
