Neighbour praised for 999 call

by isleofman.com 8th July 2014
Fire chiefs have praised a Willaston resident for calling 999 when she heard a smoke detector go off at a neighbour's home.

Two crews from Douglas were called to the property in Snaefell Road at just before 5.30pm on Monday.

Firefighters feared the owner was trapped inside and forced their way in - to find the house filled with dense smoke.

They used breathing apparatus and thermal imaging equipment to locate the cause - a pan left unattended on the cooker hob.

Although no one was in the house, officers say the local resident did the right thing calling the fire service as soon as they heard the alarm - as their action could have saved a life.
