Thanks to generous sponsorship from Permanent Bank International Ltd, the Manx Wildlife Trust, the Island’s leading nature conservation charity, has recently installed new interpretation boards at a number of its local nature reserves.
The new boards may be found at: Cronk y Bing, situated at the Lhen; Cooildarry, just outside Kirk Michael; Dalby Mountain, Dalby; Close Sartfield in the Ballaugh Curragh. Designed by the Trust’s Reserves Officer, Tricia Sayle and installed by Trust volunteer, Godfrey Pitts, all of the boards display lots of information about the wildlife that may typically be spotted on each site, accompanied by photographs taken by Manx Wildlife Trust staff, volunteers and supporters.
Carlton Freegard, Director, Permanent Bank International Ltd, recently took the opportunity to meet with Tricia, the Trust’s Fundraising and Wildlife Advocacy Officer, Anne Marie Kilgallon, and volunteer, Alison Skyner, at the Dalby Mountain nature reserve. Comprising 69 acres of heather moorland, straddling the Dalby to Round Table road, Dalby Mountain is the Trust’s largest nature reserve. As well as viewing the new interpretation board, Carlton was pleased to learn more about the reserve’s habitats and wildlife, including curlew, choughs and the seasonal profusion of orchids and cotton grass. Indeed, on arrival at the reserve, Carlton was greeted by a kestrel hovering overhead!
Carlton said, “Permanent Bank International Ltd is a keen supporter of educational initiatives within the local community and so we’re delighted to have been able to sponsor the Manx Wildlife Trust’s new interpretation boards. As all of the nature reserves where the boards are located are open to the public, we very much hope that the information and photographs on display will help people to get the most from their visits and enjoy our Island’s special wildlife.”
