Arts and culture quarter for town

by isleofman.com 10th July 2014

A local illustrator has come up with a plan to promote cultural attractions in Douglas.

Alice Quayle has designed a map and leaflet and set up a facebook page for a new Douglas Arts and Culture Quarter. She's got the backing of the Arts Council and the local authority and will launch her initiative on Douglas Carnival day on July 19.

Alice said: 'It just struck me that the whole area made up by the Gaiety, Villa Marina, Villa Arcade and Gardens, the Museum, Sayle Gallery and St Thomas' Church with its beautiful murals together make a compact, walkable culture quarter, and that if these were promoted together then this could be more of a draw for visitors than any one venue by itself.

'I hope it can be a beneficial long-term project to come out of the Island of Culture celebrations and also usefully tie in with Douglas town centre regeneration plans.'
