Manannan engine trouble slows travel

by isleofman.com 11th July 2014
The Steam Packet Company says the Manannan is currently running on reduced power after a mechanical issue with one of her four engines.

As a result, the company says travel times to Liverpool are expected to be around 20 minutes longer than scheduled, depending on tidal conditions.

Specialist engineers are looking into the problem, which is thought to be a failed crankshaft, similar to problems which cropped up four years ago.

The company says it will take the vessel out of service after the Isle of Man Festival of Motorcycling, as repairs are likely to take up to four days to complete.
