Timing Tynwald

by isleofman.com 15th July 2014

For the first time, members of Tynwald face restrictions on the length of time they can spend on their feet.

It's the final sitting of the Manx parliament today, ahead of the summer recess.

An experiment will see members allowed just five minutes to answer a Tynwald question, 10 minutes to speak in a debate, and a maximum of 20 minutes to make a statement or move a report.

Members agreed to the idea from the Lord Bishop to trial time-limited speeches.  But Tynwald President Claire Christian will be able to overrule the limitations on request.

A committee of Tynwald will review the experiment and report back at the November sitting of the court.
