Steam Packet & Sure team up to support Tinkermann Festival

by isleofman.com 15th July 2014
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and Sure have teamed up to support a new all-day music festival.

The TinkerMann Festival takes place at the Villa Marina on Saturday, July 19th and has been organised by experienced local promoter Mark Armstrong, who has brought his wealth of contacts and expertise to the event.

With Douglas Carnival also taking place on the same day, the Island’s capital will certainly be alive with lots of fun things to do.
Four local bands will play outdoors in the Villa Marina Gardens on the Saturday afternoon, with a further nine bands performing in the evening, with two of those being local acts – Mark Cleator and ‘Next Big Thing’ winner Mae Challis.

Mark explained: ‘The headline act for the night is Turin Brakes, making their fourth visit to the Island, supported by a number of UK and Irish bands, with a range of music to suit all tastes – from acoustic folk to good old rock.

‘The afternoon action gets underway in the Villa Marina Gardens at 12pm, with lots of family-friendly fun, and with the bands performing under cover so any rain will not dampen spirits. The afternoon section of the festival is free for everyone.

‘At night, the action moves inside to the Promenade and Colonnade Suites from 7pm, where two separate stages will host the bands.’

Tickets for the night’s music are on sale now, priced at ?35.70 for adults and ?25.50 for children under-16, and available from the Villa Gaiety website, the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal or by calling 600555. Discounts of ?5 a ticket are available to customers of the Steam Packet Company and Sure – to receive a ?5 discount, please simply quote either of the promotion codes ‘SPC’ or ‘SURE’ when purchasing your tickets.

Steam Packet Company Marketing and Online Manager Renee Caley said: ‘TinkerMann is an exciting new festival in the Island’s calendar and we’re delighted to be able to offer our support in getting it off the ground. With Douglas Carnival taking place on the same day, which we’re also supporting, it promises to be a really exciting day for the capital.’

Sure Marketing Manager Sarah Jarvis added: ‘Mark has pulled together a great line-up for the festival and it promises to be quite a day. With the afternoon aimed at families, and the evening at more hardcore music fans, it should have something for everyone. We’re thrilled to be involved at the start of a festival which will hopefully grow over time and establish itself in the years ahead.’

For anyone who hasn’t had their fill of live music on the Saturday, TinkerMann Too will take place at the Town Hall, Port St Mary the following night from 7pm.  Top tribute band Kings of Lyon and UK blues rock band The Della Grants will provide the entertainment that night, with tickets priced at ?20 for adults and ?10 for under-14s.
