Minister says 18-20 minimum wage justified

A new age bracket for the minimum wage has been introduced by Tynwald members after businesses argued their case to the committee which sets rates.

Now, 18 to 20 year olds won’t be part of the adult minimum wage – and so missed out on a 25p an hour wage rise for adults the court aopproved yesterday.

Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly acknowledged it would hit those who chose to work rather than study.
