Well known local artist Eileen Schaer has had two paintings accepted for the Curwen Figurative Art Prize, which takes place at the Curwen Gallery in Central London in October 2014.
‘Three Men in a Boat’ and ‘Dog Tricks’ were selected by Sir Peter Blake (artist), Nicholas Usherwood (Editor of Galleries Magazine), artist Anthony Green RA and Jill Hutchings (Director of the Curwen Gallery) as illustrations of exceptional ability in the field of figurative painting, paying particular attention to technical skill of the artist.
Eileen’s work can be seen in galleries around the Island, but her most recent solo exhibition was ‘Out of the Ordinary’ at the Sayle Gallery in September 2013, where she sold almost all her paintings in the first couple of days. ‘Three Men in a Boat’, astonishingly, was not sold then, but will now be on show to a wider public at the Curwen Gallery from 8th to 29th October, along with ‘Dog Tricks’ and work from sixteen other artists.
Over 120 artists originally entered work online for the Curwen Figurative Art Prize, from which sixty were invited to take their original works to London for further consideration. The exhibition contains work from just seventeen finalists – and the winner will be announced at the private view on 7th October. The prize is ?1000 and a future solo exhibition at the Curwen Gallery, and the sponsor, executive search firm Odgers Berndston, is also awarding an additional ‘purchase prize’.
If you’d like to visit the exhibition, the Curwen Gallery is at 34 Windmill Street, W1T 2JR, and if you’d like to know more about Eileen’s work, her website is
