Local men participate in famous Mongol Rally

by isleofman.com 21st July 2014

Four local men left the Island on Saturday along with two Mini Mayfair cars and the goal of conquering a 10,000 mile rally from London to Ulaan Baatar in Mongolia.

Along with 399 other intrepid teams, the 138.com sponsored team consisting of Rory Kimber, Ben Sharples, Matty Carter and Chris Connan will embark on this once-in a lifetime journey from Battersea Park in London.  “After that the route is undefined except for the end point in Mongolia, and that apparently is part of the fun. It’s not about the race; it’s about having the best experience.” says team leader Rory.

The fully branded up Minis which were purchased on Ebay, have been totally refurbished by team mechanic Matty Carter who’s been working flat-out on them from his garage in Ballasalla for the past month.

The team are raising money for two charities, Manx Miracles and Cool Earth and have been sponsored by local e-gaming website 138.com.
