The team at Andrew Barton Photography have cause for celebration after their latest work experience student, Chantelle Gregson, was voted a category winner in Isle of Man Newspapers’ Young Photographer of the Year competition.
15-year-old Ramsey Grammar School student Chantelle, who spent two weeks working with Andrew Barton and his team, won the Abstract, Objects and Still Life category with ‘Blue Flower’.
Chantelle said: ‘My two weeks work experience was really interesting. As well as having all kinds of different opportunities for taking photographs, I was able to watch Andrew and his co-photographer Sue Jones at work and meet some of their clients. The fortnight also gave me an insight into the technical side of photography and I learned a lot about lighting. I’m considering a career in photography as an art form so to have been able to work alongside Andrew has been very useful.’
Mr Barton said: ‘In today’s contracting jobs market it’s vital that young people develop the skills they need to compete and succeed. It’s for this reason all of us at Andrew Barton Photography are always keen to share our knowledge and experience with young people soon to enter the world of work. During the time she spent with us Chantelle showed a natural aptitude for photography that has clearly served her well in the Young Photographer of the Year competition and we wish her every success in the future.’
