An open afternoon was held at The Children’s Centre’s Community Farm on Saturday 19th July to give an insight into what The Farm has to offer. The Community Farm has been designed to encourage people to reconnect with the countryside, grow their social skills and self confidence, as well as the opportunity to learn and develop new practical skills. Despite the rain all those that attended the open afternoon enjoyed their visit as they explored The Farm.
Visitors got to look around the poly tunnels and the vegetable patches to gain an understanding of nature and food provenance. They also got to see the many animals The Community Farm cares for, including as donkeys, pigs, rabbits and chickens. The visitors also had the chance to pet the guinea pigs and rabbits. Chrissy says that this is often the highlight for many visitors. Open events at The Community Farm aim to show people the work that we do, including alternative educational programmes, supported volunteering and work placements.
Chrissy would like to thank all those who attended the open afternoon - and for those who didn’t make it there are opportunities to head down very soon as there are plenty of exciting activities and events happening in the weeks ahead.
Upcoming events include an open afternoon will be held on 16th August. There will be an open day on 30th August with activities to be planned such as a farm adventure trail and planting in the poly tunnels. Later in September The Community Farm is also planning a mheilliah and ceilidh.
The Community Farm has just launched its Crop Share scheme, which is an opportunity to buy fresh and locally grown produce throughout the summer whilst supporting our charitable activities.
