Emergency funding of ?50,000 has been given by the Isle of Man to support efforts to contain an outbreak of the deadly ebola virus.

The disease has already claimed the lives of hundreds of people in Sierra Leone and is reportedly one of the worst outbreaks ever seen. The humanitarian effort is to prevent it from spreading into other areas.

Chairman of the island's international development committee, Phil Gawne MHK said: 'This disease has a death rate of up to 90 per cent so it is vital that the emergency response is swift and decisive. The Isle of Man's contribution will help Save the Children deliver important education and healthcare support to those who need it most.'
