Should life mean life for police killers?

Proposals to change sentencing in England and Wales following the murder of Manx-educated police office Fiona Bone have been criticised by a former top Scotland Yard officer.

Dale Cregan murdered Fiona and a fellow Manchester police officer in 2012, prompting UK Home Secretary Theresa May to announce she wants to ensure life means life for those who target the police.

But her plans for whole-life terms for police killers have met with resistance from former Metropolitan police commissioner Lord Blair.

He says a gunman who kills one officer could be more likely to target others because they know they’ve nothing more to fear:Clip 1
