Council's outdoors initiative

by isleofman.com 25th July 2014

The parks and gardens of Douglas are the focus of a photography event this weekend.

As part of Love Parks week, a week-long celebration of green spaces from July 25 to August 3, Douglas Council has teamed up with local photographer Andrew Barton who will be holding two outdoors photography workshops.

Chairman of the regeneration and community advisory committee Councillor Stephen Pitts said: 'Our parks section works tirelessly on our award-winning parks and gardens to make Douglas not only a more attractive town but also to encourage people to get out in the great outdoors and take advantage of the leisure and general wellbeing opportunities presented by our green spaces that will be taking centre stage during Love Parks week.'

The photography workshops take place on Sunday with a morning session from 10am in the Green Flag award-winning (pictured) Marine Gardens on Douglas promenade. The second session at 2pm will be at the viewing platform on Douglas Head, recently installed by the parks section along with a floral display of a giant red poppy created out of 4000 geraniums and more than 1000 poppy seeds to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Anyone interested must register the free sessions in advance. Contact Andrew Barton, 480040, 817817, andrew@andrew-barton.co.uk
