Work starts on ?2.8million cell block

by isleofman.com 25th July 2014

Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson visited the site of the new custody block at police headquarters, which is now under construction.

The block will replace existing out of date facilities and is scheduled for completion in March next year. It will provide increased cell capacity and better conditions for inmates, police, advocates, healthcare professionals and disabled people.

Mr Watterson said: 'It is encouraging to see work start only a week after Tynwald members voted to support this capital project. For a number of years we have been detaining people in conditions that are unfit for the purpose.'
