PwC and The Sporting & Dining Club raise thousands for two Isle of Man charities

by isleofman.com 29th July 2014

One of the leading firm of chartered accountants in the Isle of Man has helped raise thousands of pounds for two local charities.
PwC in Douglas sponsored the recent Sporting and Dining Club Question of Sport event, at the Best Western Palace Hotel & Casino.
The Isle of Man Sporting & Dining Club’s ‘PwC Question of Sport’ is a fabulous, black tie evening of corporate entertainment and friendly competition, with teams welcomed from all areas: corporate, societies, charities, sport & social clubs and committees - who compete as a team to win the Club’s Silver Claret Jug and Champagne in a stylish and engaging sports quiz.  The event was well supported by the local business community, with Barclays Corporate emerging as winners, and Cedar Developments taking home the Wooden Spoon!

Attendees to the event dug deep and raised ?2036.00 for the two charities.

Manx Miracles

Manx Miracles is a parent led charity for families and children that have additional needs and disabilities in the Isle of Man. Their ambition is to support children and families in which ever way possible to get results that change and transform lives. They help any child with special needs to live better lives and to reach their true potential. Manx Miracles seeks to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.

The Friends of St. Mary’s School

The Friends of St Mary’s are an active group of parents who work enthusiastically to provide not only fundraising events but also social occasions to welcome new parents to their school. Money raised through these events is then used to provide extras for the school and children. We have helped purchase the school mini buses, provided new curtains for the hall, helped create the Eco Garden, provided wet playtime equipment for each class. Some of the money is also used to pay for visiting theatre/music group performances for the children. They fund discos throughout the year for both key stages, and the monies raised is invaluable to school life in a time of budget cuts and streamlining.

Ian Clague, Partner at PwC, says: ‘These events are a great platform for raising vital funds for charities across the island and we are proud to support them‘.

The next event will take place at the Palace Hotel on Thursday 16 October, with former international rugby player, manager of England and motivational speaker Martin Johnson.
