New service to support people in the North of the Island launched

by isleofman.com 30th July 2014
Ramsey MHK and Chairman of the Ramsey Cottage Hospital League of Friends Leonard Singer and Chairman of Hospice Isle of Man, Sir Miles Walker were delighted to officially open a new essential service for the people of the north of the Island. The launch was attended the Chief Minister Alan Bell and Eddie Teare, the Treasury Minister along with representatives of healthcare professionals from this area.

This new drop in day service is open to patients affected by cancer or any other life-threatening illnesses or their relatives or carers. It is also open to anyone seeking information or advice relating to cancer. This service will be based in Ramsey Town Hall, Parliament Square every Wednesday between 10.30am-6.30pm.

Drop in days are held at Hospice Isle of Man twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays with over 1,000 people attending since its commencement over a year ago.

This is the first time Hospice has taken this type of services out into the community but this couldn’t have been achieved with the support of Ramsey Cottage Hospital League of Friends. Island-wide hospice at home services are being provided but a drop in day is a different type of support.

Sir Miles Walker said: “This is the first time Hospice has opened a satellite service on the Isle of Man and we are extremely grateful to Mr Singer and all his committee for all their encouragement and support in getting this essential drop in day started.”

Mr Singer added: “I am aware of the terrific work that Hospice does on the island and feel that having a drop in day in Ramsey will hugely benefit local people at a crucial time in their lives.” “The Ramsey Cottage Hospital League of Friends has been supporting Ramsey Cottage Hospital for many years and this seemed a natural extension to the good works carried out for decades.”
