Sunday 31st August at 2pm will see a sponsored Twin toddle, walk, ride, push, along Douglas promenade starting at the Bottleneck car park Cafe to the Cenotaph.
The event is being organised as part of the ongoing fundraising campaign by the Isle of Man twin mums support facebook group affiliated with TAMBA, to purchase a second specialist twin cot for Nobles hospital.
One cot has already been purchased with funds raised by the group and Oskars dreams. The cot will be presented to the Special Care Baby Unit later this month. The second cot will be donated to the main maternity ward for twins who do not require specialist baby care, but can be kept together.
Marion Taggart, who saw the need for the cots and organised the fundraising said: "Only a small number of hospitals in the country have twin cots but the difference they make is exceptional, they are thought to help regulate body temperature, sleep cycles and help encourage the twins special bond by replicating the closeness that they experience prior to birth."
"The Isle of Man has a high number of twins and this would be a perfect opportunity to get as many twins together in one place on the Island."
"Event organiser Kerry Ohare said: "We are hoping to attract twins, triplets and any other multiples of all ages for this fundraising walk, and see just how many twins the Island has. Farmhill lane has five sets of twins living on it , is there anywhere with more?"
The Isle of Man twin mums facebook group was set up by Jane Cowley to offer peer support for twin parents on the Island. They meet regularly at dragons castle and other venues on the Island and have social events throughout the year. The group can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/110479515656982/.
