Island firms re assured over Equality Bill

by isleofman.com 11th August 2014
A major public consultation on new equality laws has started.
The public is being urged to give their views on a draft Equality Bill, described by the chief minister as one of the most important pieces of social legislation to be put forward in the Island for some time.
It aims to outlaw discrimination on grounds including disability, age, sex, race, sexual orientation, religion and gender reassignment.
The bill would protect citizens in the workplace and areas such as housing, education, transport, pensions and retail services.
Many large firms with UK head officers will already abide by UK equality laws.
Allan Bell's promising local firms which need to make changes, any new laws will be brought in gradually.
