Island resident describes 'highly plausible' bank scam

by isleofman.com 17th August 2014
An Island resident has described how she nearly lost several thousand pounds in a sophisticated telephone bank scam.

The woman was contacted by someone claiming to be a bank official and told there had been unauthorised use of her debit card.

She followed advice given this week by police and did not pass on any personal information or security numbers.

But when she rang her bank's fraud line, the fraudsters intercepted the call and she was persuaded to make an online transfer from her own account to another.

A security team at Barclay's in the Island questioned the transaction and stopped it.

The Manx Radio listener, who doesn't want to be named, says the scammers were highly plausible:Clip 1
