Work assessments to be introduced soon

by isleofman.com 29th August 2014
Personal Capability Assessments are being brought in in the Isle of Man next month, the government has confirmed.
The tests are to check people's suitability for work, and their eligibility for incapacity benefit.
It follows the running of a pilot which used the controversial French firm ATOS, although it will not be carrying out the assessments.
They will be done by a company called Dependability Ltd.
The government says Dependability Ltd has been employed on a three-year contract by Isle of Man Treasury.
During that time, it's expected to carry out around 3,000 face-to-face assessments.
When the pilot scheme was conducted, it found around one-third of those claiming incapacity benefit stopped doing so before they were assessed and one-third were found to be incapable of work.
The final third were deemed fit to do some form of work, and had their incapacity benefit stopped.
Some of those were transferred to jobseekers allowance.
