Arnhem veteran all set for commemoration

by isleofman.com 1st September 2014
Seventy years ago this month the Allies faced their most infamous defeat of the Second World War, and a Ramsey man was there.
The Battle of Arnhem took place in Holland in 1944, with the Allies hoping to enter the Netherlands in one single move.
Paratroopers were dropped into the country to secure key bridges and towns.
Harry Dicken, who is nearly 90 years old and now lives in Ramsey, parachuted into Arnhem on September 18, 1944, the second day of Operation Market Garden.
He'll be attending a commemoration later this month.
The attack was unsuccessful, but has become synonymous with the British fighting spirit, as well as inspiring the well-known film ‘A Bridge Too Far’.
Mr Dicken has been recounting his story:Clip 1
