MHK questions Big Debate

by isleofman.com 16th September 2014

Douglas MHK Chris Thomas says House of Keys members and candidates should be involved in the Council of Ministers' Big Debate.

The public will be given a unique opportunity to vote on the challenges facing the Isle of Man next month. Hundreds of people, randomly selected from the voters' list, will be invited to meetings to give their feedback via anonymous voting.

Chris Thomas says he welcomes the concept but says the Big Debate might be seen as 'state-sponsored electioneering' unless all Keys members and candidates are involved. He's warning on social media: 'It will not be a debate at all if the objective is to persuade people that the government way is the only way.'
