A week of Farmers' Markets kicks off today

by isleofman.com 18th September 2014

The month of September sees most Farmers busy bringing in the harvest, hay and straw baled while grain is safely stored on lofts.

Likewise the traders of the Isle Of Man Farmers’ Markets are having a busy time too with four markets in one week!

The weekly Thursday market, (18th September), at Tynwald Mills, St. Johns, (11am – 3pm), kicks off proceedings, with the usual array of fresh seasonal produce, baked goods, pies, pastries, preserves, eggs and perennial plants, followed on Saturday 20th September with two markets. Ramsey plays host to the weekly market held in the Northern Lights Community Centre 10am -  1pm, while Douglas shoppers have the second opportunity of the month, (the first being at the Villa Marina, 1st Saturday of the month), there they will find an array of fair priced, quality, fresh, local produce direct from the producers, anytime from 10am – 4pm at the Regent Street Market just outside the Post Office – a handy location  as shoppers only have a short distance to carry their bags of bargains!

Who said Sunday was a day of Rest – not for the Farmers’ Market  Traders! Sunday 21st September sees some of them setting up camp at the S100 clubhouse car park, Castletown, 1pm – 4pm, along with a variety of local craft stalls, pygmy goats and vintage farm machinery from the Southern Vintage Tractor Club.

Everyone is welcome to come and talk to the men – and women – who have lovingly restored the machines to their former glory and are only too happy to demonstrate how they work – from pumping water to rolling oats, while Becky will be willing to answer any questions you may have on the keeping of Pygmy goats and miniature ponies, who needs a lawn mower?! Kids are welcome to come along and enter our picture competition – draw what you see. Entries will be judged at a later date and the winner informed.

As always there is no admission charge, ample free parking, easy access by bus, rail, tram and foot to all our markets.
