Douglas Mayor welcomes 60th wedding anniversary couple

by isleofman.com 26th September 2014

A couple returning to the Isle of Man to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary had a surprise – a meeting with the Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas, Stan and Sheila Cain.

The surprise for Margo and Charles Mairs, who live in Holywood, County Down, had been arranged by their son, Adrian Mairs who said: 'My mum and dad really enjoyed their meeting with the Mayor and Mayoress and appreciated all the thought that had gone into their visit.

'When they visited the Isle of Man for their honeymoon they stayed in the Sefton Hotel for a week and had a room with a sea view.  They were delighted to find that it was still open and we all stayed there this time around, in sea view rooms again.  On their honeymoon they saw Johnny Dankworth, Cleo Laine and Joe Loss and his orchestra at the Villa Marina, so we had a look around it and visited the Royal Hall.  We also took them on the steam train to Port Erin - a trip they last made 60 years ago.'
