Momentous telcoms change for Island

by isleofman.com 28th September 2014
The Isle of Man should prepare for “momentous change” in telecommunications.

That's the belief of the Chief Operating Officer for Sure Mike Phillips as the market on the Island starts opening up to greater competition in fixed line calls.

The Communications Commission has given the green light to a mechanism called Carrier Pre-Select which is the first stage in the move towards full-blown telecoms competition in the Isle of Man.

Mr Phillips says Sure has been advocating such a move for a number of years and he believes the ability for other operators to compete with Manx Telecom will be good for the Island and provide better value for customers.

Local internet provider Wi-Manx has already applied for a full telecoms licence

Manx Telecom's Chief Executive Mike Dee says he also welcomes competition but he does have some reservations:Clip 1
