Sailor rescued from drifting yacht

by isleofman.com 29th September 2014

The owner of a catamaran was rescued by the RNLI after he was spotted helpless on the damaged vessel.

Ramsey lifeboat volunteers intercepted the dismasted yacht that was rapidly being swept by a strong tide up the north coast. A dog walker spotted the distressed craft and called the RNLI. Meanwhile, four further calls from concerned members of the public were made to emergency services.

The 'Hobie Cat' was stopped about three miles north west of the Point of Ayre on Saturday evening and the owner was said to be 'wet and cold' but otherwise unhurt. Two members of the volunteer crew were put on board the catamaran to stabilise it before towing it in to Ramsey beach.
