A picture of super-size sunflowers, with his son next to them, has won John Bowness of Douglas an iPhone 5 in an Isle of Man Bank competition.
More than 300 entries were received for the bank’s sunflower photographic competition, in which customers were encouraged to take striking photographs of their sunflowers – grown using seeds supplied by the bank - and send them in.
The judging panel had a tough task choosing a winner but eventually selected John’s picture, which also features his son Harley.
John, who also received a canvas print of his photograph, was delighted to win, particularly after he’d been teased by friends over the amount of time he had spent growing the sunflowers! The iPhone 5 prize will enable John to bank in his free time allowing him even more time to spend in the garden.
He added that the trick to growing large sunflowers was to keep them inside for as long as possible.
The judging panel also selected three runners-up to also receive canvas prints. They were Annabell Storm, Dave Hall and Juan Moore.
Matt Cory, campaign and communications manager at Isle of Man Bank, said: ‘We had a wonderful selection of entries and it was a very hard task to choose a winner.
‘Well done to everyone who took part in the competition.’
