The first of four Big Debates takes place at Peel Centenary Centre tonight. It's for invited guests only and has been organised by Policy and Reform Minister Chris Robertshaw, who says he wants to include members of the public in decision-making.
But backbenchers who have criticised the project are staging a rival meeting in Peel's Masonic Hall at 7pm and encouraging people to go along.
Four thousand people have been written to, from a random selection of the population, to attend one of the four meetings organised by the government. Chris Robertshaw said: 'I am encouraged by the influx of responses we've received and the clear appetite of the public to engage in our national conversation.'
He will be at the Centenary Centre tonight along with Treasury Minister Eddie Teare.
