Masterplan for 'world-class' capital to go on display

by isleofman.com 3rd October 2014
A masterplan which aims to create a "world-class" capital for the Island has been revealed.
Among many objectives it aims to improve the gateways to Douglas, increase retail opportunities, create a new civic space for events and activities and connect key attractions in the town.
Chair of the Central Douglas Masterplan Committee Chris Robertshaw MHK says the masterplan is not a blueprint for development or a statutory document, but will guide decision making and future policy.
He adds that government cannot deliver the strategy on its own and the committee is encouraging anyone with an interest in the future of Douglas to take part in the six week public consultation.
An exhibition to promote awareness of the Mmasterplan will be held at the Strand Shopping Centre from 2pm on Monday, October 6 until Saturday, October 11.
Members of the public will also be able to attend a presentation of the masterplan at the Manx Museum at 6pm on Tuesday, October 13.
The consultation runs until November 14.
