Power back on in the north, DoI staff praised for roads work

by isleofman.com 6th October 2014
The Manx Utilities Authority says electricity supplies have been restored in the north of the Island.
The poor weather overnight had brought a tree down on lines in the Ballaugh area, cutting power to a number of properties.
Meanwhile, the infrastructure minister has praised the work of his staff overnight.
Crews worked through the early hours of this morning to deal with damage caused by gale force winds and heavy rain.
Many trees were brought down between 2.30am and 7am, as gusts reached speeds approaching 70mph.
The clean-up operation is continuing today, with staff from the Highway Services Division being deployed across the Isle of Man to clear debris from the roads.
Mr Gawne says while most people were able to heed the advice to stay at home and batten down the hatches, Infrastructure staff were out in the worst of the weather, working through the early hours to ensure there was minimal travel disruption for people heading to work this morning.
