Praise for storm workers

by isleofman.com 6th October 2014

Crews from the Department of Infrastructure who dealt with damage caused by gale force winds and heavy rain overnight have been praised for their work.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne said: 'While most people were able to heed the advice to stay at home and batten down the hatches, Infrastructure staff were out in the worst of the weather, working through the early hours to ensure there was minimal traffic disruption for people heading to work on Monday morning. Severe weather events bring the work of the department into sharp focus and our staff can be relied upon to respond in a professional and effective manner.'

Trees were brought down across the island as gusts reached 70 mph between 2.30am and 7am. The clean up operation is continuing today with workers clearing debris from the roads. There's flooding and leaf debris on many roads and motorists are being advised to drive carefully.
