Update issued ahead of tonight's predicted flooding

by isleofman.com 8th October 2014
The Department of Infrastructure is working with local authorities and other agencies to try to mitigate the risks associated with tonight’s predicted coastal flooding.

Staff will monitor weather conditions and provide help in the event of any flooding around the time of the spring tide at 00:17 on Thursday 9 October.

The Department of Infrastructure’s Ellerslie Control will be manned between 22:30 and 01:00 and anyone who requires assistance can call 850000 or 672000.

The high water levels may lead to flooding in harbour areas, including Hope Street and Back Hope Street in Castletown, the Tongue and parts of Lake Road and Leigh Terrace in Douglas and West Quay to ‘Mezeron Corner’ in Ramsey.

The Department of Infrastructure is continuing to liaise with Douglas Borough Council, Ramsey Commissioners and Castletown Commissioners and other Government Departments and agencies.

Staff will be on standby to deploy sandbags and other preventative measures in the event of properties being at risk of flooding.

Members of the public are reminded that sandbags are available free of charge from civic amenity sites across the Isle of Man.

In addition to the high tide, heavy rain could result in some localised flooding tonight and motorists are urged to slow down and drive to the conditions.
