Island of Culture brings Celtic Drumming Workshops to the island

by isleofman.com 10th October 2014

As part of the Island of Culture, The Isle of Man Arts Council has sponsored Cathi Wareing to deliver a number of Celtic Drumming Workshops across the island over October.  Cathi, a former pupil of Douglas High School, has spent many years in Liverpool Youth and Play Service and wants to offer her community art skills to people in her “spiritual “home.

Cathi recently ran the highly popular Celtic drumming workshops at the Manx Fun Palace event in Laxey and this week will be delivering workshops for the Douglas Youth Arts Centre on the 13th, 15th and 16th October 6 - 7.30 PM culminating in a Sunset Celtic Drumming Circle on the 19th October at the Youth Services Ardwhallin Outdoor Education Centre. All sessions ?2.00.

The final venue for her tour, yet to be confirmed, is to work with the Praying the Keeills group on October the 26th.  She hopes to contribute to the week long celebration of Celtic Christianity in May 2015.

“Celtic Drumming is more about context than performance or skills and that everyone who is prepared to listen can do it.” said Cathi.

“We will emulate the Celtic Christians who saw the divine in all of nature, and used drums to not only express themselves but as a form of communication.”

To book and for more details please call Cathi on 457448 or log onto the Creating Respect and Resilience face book page: www.facebook.com/pages/Creating-Respect-and-Resilience
