Minimum budget for police

by isleofman.com 13th October 2014

Cuts to the police budget are back on the political agenda this month.

Douglas MHK John Houghton wants Tynwald to agree that future annual budgets should not fall below the current budget of ?13.15million and that there should be a minimum of 210 full time operational police officers.

Earlier this year, Chief Constable Gary Roberts announced he would be restructuring the force to take swingeing cuts into account. Changes included closing two police stations and a reduction in officer numbers.

Mr Houghton's motion was debated at the July sitting of Tynwald and adjourned to this month.
