The next film to be screened by Films in Peel at The Centenary Centre is from India: The Lunchbox (cert PG), screening on Wednesday 22nd October.
This film is set in Mumbai, a city famous for the lunchbox delivery phenomenon. Mumbai has 5,000 dabba (lunchbox) deliverymen. It is a hereditary profession and every morning the Dabbawallahs deliver hot meals from the kitchens of the housewives to the offices of their husbands. They are illiterate and use a complex coding system of colours to deliver the dabbas to the correct place. Apparently, just one in every 4 million lunchboxes is delivered to the wrong address. This film is the story of that one lunchbox. Starring Irfan Khan (Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionarie) and popular Bollywood actor Nawazzudin Siddiqui, and by first time director Ritesh Batra, this film is a bittersweet romantic comedy and a sensitive portrayal of the city of Mumbai. A lovely film not to be missed!
