Following the success of its charity Plane Pull event this summer, Citywing will be holding a second Plane Pull this weekend, where 13 teams from local businesses will compete for the chance to beat the Plane Pull record and to raise money for Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.
The sponsored event, one of a series of ‘Pink Power Events’ held by the charity, will take place at the Citywing hangar at Isle of Man Airport on Sunday 19 October. Team members will need to work together to pull an aircraft along a 34 metre course, which the Douglas rugby union team completed in July this year in a record time of 13.12 seconds.
Each team has been raising sponsorship to enter the Plane Pull, with all funds going to Manx Breast Cancer Support Group. As well as attempting to beat the record set by the Douglas rugby union team this summer, there will be prizes awarded for the fastest team and the "most fun team"!
David Buck, Managing Director at Citywing, said: ‘After the success of this summer’s Plane Pull, we are very excited to be able to put on another in aid of Manx Breast Cancer Support Group, and to have had such a fantastic response from teams wishing to enter the event. This is a hugely beneficial new charity for the Isle of Man, and we are delighted to offer our support to raise money for, and awareness of, the services it provides.’
Denise Bridson at Manx Breast Cancer Support Group added: ‘The Manx Breast Cancer Support Group aims to provide advice and support for breast cancer patients, their families and carers. Currently, we have set ourselves the task of raising money to create a dedicated breast care unit for the Isle of Man, facilitated by Nobles Hospital management.
‘This space will provide clinic rooms including a breast screening unit and symptomatic breast clinic as well as counselling areas, and act as a patient and family resource centre and education area. It is estimated that the total cost of these works will be in the region of ?1.5million, and we are very grateful to Citywing for holding this Plane Pull event in an effort to raise funds and help us reach our goal.’
