Time is up for Blackpool airport

by isleofman.com 15th October 2014

No buyer has been found to save Blackpool airport, which will cease operations at 6pm today.

Three commercial airlines used Blackpool, including the Citywing service from the Isle of Man. It had been put up for sale by owners Balfour Beatty.

A statement has been posted on the airport website, advising of closure of the terminal and adding: 'Work is currently underway with the independent aviation businesses and tenants at the airport to understand if their operations can continue in the future. Working in partnership with the local authorities, regeneration plans are also being developed which will be designed to create future employment and sustainable economic development opportunities for Blackpool and the Fylde Coast.

'Thank you to all staff, tenants, passengers and customers for your support.'
