The exhibition at the Sea Terminal to showcase the options for the refurbishment of Douglas Promenade is being extended to encourage additional public feedback.
 
Outline designs, technical information and artist’s impressions will be available to view in the main foyer until Friday 24 October. The closing date for people to indicate their preferred location for the horse tram tracks is Monday 27 October, ahead of a presentation to Tynwald Members early in November.
 
More than 2,500 people have already visited the display at the Sea Terminal, which features the two options currently being considered:
 
• Option 1 shows the relocation of the horse tram tracks on the highway next to the Marine Gardens
• Option 2 shows the tram tracks on the Promenade Walkway
 
The proposals, which feature the same layout beyond the War Memorial to Strathallan Crescent, are being reviewed as part of the broader scheme to reconstruct the highway, footways and drainage on Douglas Promenade.
 
Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne MHK said: ‘The public exhibition has been so well supported that we have decided to keep it open until 24 October. We don’t want anyone to miss the opportunity to have their say on their preferred location for the horse tram tracks. The response so far has been overwhelming. We’ve had a significant number of visitors to the exhibition and almost 500 written submissions. That feedback will be taken on board ahead of further discussions with Members of Tynwald.’
 
Visitors to the display at the Sea Terminal can respond to the questions in a leaflet, which includes illustrations of the two proposals.
