A photographer who has worked in the film industry and had work published by NASA will talk about life behind the lens next week.
Justin Quinnell, an expert in pinhole photography, will give a lecture entitled ‘Manhole’ at the Market Hall, Douglas, on Tuesday 21st October, 6.30pm.
His visit is part of the Citywing-supported ‘Artist on a Plane’ initiative organised by the Isle of Man College of Further and Higher Education, which runs arts degree courses at the Market Hall.
Citywing is funding a year of visits by artists to mark Island of Culture 2014.
Justin first picked up a camera aged 11 and is a graduate in fine art photography who works freelance and lectures in the subject all over the world.
His work has appeared on the NASA website and in publications as diverse as Time Out, The Smithsonian Magazine and Dentistry Today. He was pinhole photography consultant for the 2008 Rachel Weisz and Mark Ruffalo film The Brothers Bloom.
On television, Justin has appeared on The One Show, The Jonathan Ross Show and Blue Peter and features in a forthcoming episode of the CBBC series Absolute Genius with Dick and Dom.
When artist in residence at Knowle West Media Centre, he headed the innovative Sunrise Project, in which hundreds of Bristol residents were given cameras made of old drinks cans and asked to photograph the sun over several months.
He has been the UK publicist for World Pinhole Photography Day since its inception 13 years ago. His third book on pinhole techniques was published in June.
