Toilet tax in Tynwald

by isleofman.com 20th October 2014

The unpopular sewerage charge is back on the political agenda.

Chairman of the Manx Utilities Authority, Alf Cannan MHK will make a statement on the so-called toilet tax when Tynwald begins its monthly sitting.

Tynwald voted to introduce the tax earlier this year and the ?50 per year charge on each household came into force on April 1. The annual charge is expected to increase to ?100 next year. Widely regarded as unfair, it was the subject of an online petition against its introduction which gathered more than 6,000 signatures.
