Great Weekend for Beach Buddies

by isleofman.com 20th October 2014
The Isle of Man's beaches are cleaning up nicely thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers.
The “Beach Buddies” scheme has been running since 2006, aiming to give the Island the cleanest beaches in Britain.
This weekend saw one of the charity’s biggest turnout yet.
A committed group gathered on Saturday and Sunday, despite gale force winds, with their sights firmly set on the Point of Ayre and Port Soderick.
58 people turned up to the Point of Ayre on Saturday and the team managed to collect 64 bags of rubbish.
Sunday saw 43 volunteers collecting 31 bags of rubbish at Port Soderick, as well as a tin from 2001, showing at least 13 years of debris build-up.
Bill Dale, charity founder, says this weekend in particular has shown what the charity is all about: the community working together to show they care about our beautiful Island and wildlife.
The volunteers also worked hard to implement “Beach Buddies Big Beach Bins” which encourages the public to help out with their campaign.
The bins have plastic bags which dog walkers and visitors can use to make a difference by collecting a few items of rubbish on their strolls.
Next weekend the volunteers will be meeting again on Sunday at Castletown.Clip 1
