Old prison site redevelopment

by isleofman.com 21st October 2014

Sheltered housing, day care facilities or a church - these are all potential uses for the old prison site on Victoria Road in Douglas that are identified in a development brief published by the government.

Infrastructure Minister Phil Gawne said: 'Our intention is to support redevelopment that will best serve the needs of the local community and also reflect Government’s national priorities. This is a prominent site in Douglas and potential developers will have to demonstrate a high quality design that will contribute positively to the visual amenity of the surrounding area.'

The two acre plot has been vacant since 2013 when the Victorian prison was demolished, having stood empty since 2008 when the new prison opened at Jurby.
