MER celebrates World Record Day on Sunday

by isleofman.com 21st October 2014
The Island’s newest museum is asking everyone to dig out their Guinness Book of World Records to see if the Island’s oldest tram is listed.

Manx Electric Railway tramcar no. 1 has appeared in the book as the ‘oldest operating tramcar in the world’. However, it doesn’t get a mention in every edition and the museum would like to see in which issues of the book tramcar no. 1 is listed.

The MER museum will celebrate World Record Day by asking everyone who has a Book of World Records to bring it along this Sunday, 26 October, and see the record breaking tram on display (weather permitting). Anyone who has a copy but who is unable to go along on Sunday is welcome to contact the museum’s honorary curator Norman Dowd via email: mer-museum@manx.net.

The volunteer-run MER Museum first opened in June this year. Located at Derby Castle Depot it is open from midday until 4.30pm on Sundays when the MER is operating. Admission is free.

Please note access to the museum is not suitable for people with disabilities. There is no public parking adjacent to the site, which is a short walk from the north end of Douglas promenade.

The MER Museum’s final open day will be the following Sunday, 2 November.
