?5million Tetra spend on hold

by isleofman.com 22nd October 2014

Tynwald wants more detail on a ?5million communications system for emergency services.

Members of the Manx parliament failed to support Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson in his bid to replace the existing Tetra system. The issue will be back before Tynwald next month instead.

There were concerns about the cost, with Onchan MHK Peter Karran questioning whether there was urgent operational need for a new system.

Juan Turner MLC said Tetra was an overpriced system when it was first installed in 2004 and had been overtaken by mobile phone technology, while John Houghton MHK said Tynwald had not been properly briefed before being asked to endorse the spending.
