A group of business people cut a dash through the rush hour traffic by cycling to work in suits to raise funds for charity. The Children’s Centre’s Suits On Bikes event saw 14 fundraisers leaving their cars at home and commuting by bike wearing a suit and tie. To take part they could either ride on all five days of the working week starting on October 20, or just on Friday October 24. Funds are still coming in, but the final total raised is expected to be around ?2,500 which will go towards The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects.
Those taking part were Mark Anscomb (Capita), Anthony Bell-Scott (Cavendish Trust), Ron Guest (AXA), Gary McManus (IoM Government), Juan Owens (Zurich), and James Tummon and Paul Warburton (both from Coutts). Several staff from The Children’s Centre also took part, including Chief Executive John Knight, Head of Early Years and Play Angela Guest, Endurance Events Fundraiser Lisa Motley, Fundraising Co-ordinator Mark Eastham, Facilities Manager Chris Martin, Maintenance Officer Curtis Gizzi, and Fostering First Deputy Manager Nigel Howard. On behalf of the Children’s Centre. John Knight thanked all of those who took part, and everyone who sponsored the riders. On the last day of the event the group enjoyed a well-earned breakfast of bacon baps and coffee at the Noa Bake House in Douglas.
