Departing prison governor 'hard act to follow' - minister

by isleofman.com 28th October 2014
Whoever takes on the role of governor at the Island's prison will have to be very special.

That view from Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson following news that Alison Gomme will leave in March next year.

Suggestions that her departure's been triggered by the announcement an independent inquiry will be held into the early release of a prisoner who went on to kill a 62 year old visitor to the Island, are being played down.

Mr Watterson says it's unfortunate that the two are being linked, as he was told about Mrs Gomme's decision more than a month ago.

She is leaving to spend more time with her family.

Mr Watterson says her replacement will have to be an exceptional candidate:Clip 1
