Minister defends proposed new housing laws

by isleofman.com 29th October 2014
Proposed new legislation aimed at putting more safeguards in tenancy agreements is being defended by the politician responsible for it.

Policy and Reform Minister Chris Robertshaw gave evidence to a select committee yesterday about the Landlord and Tenant Bill.

If it becomes law, all landlords will have to sign a register, have tenancy agreements with all tenants and meet a defined set of minimum standards.

Concerns have been raised about the bill being too one sided, unfairly penalising landlords.

It was also suggested it was being rushed through, something Mr Robertshaw strongly denies.Clip 1
