Council all fired up for November 7th

Douglas Borough Council’s public fireworks display will be on Friday November 7th.

Sponsored by Celton Manx and with support from 3FM the event starts at 7pm when judging, led by the Mayor of Douglas Stan Cain,  takes place for the Best Guy competition and prizes of ?100, ?50 and ?25 awarded for first, second and third places respectively.

At 7.15pm the Mayor will light the bonfire and at 7.30pm a spectacular fireworks display will be fired to music from a barge in the vicinity of the war memorial. 

Douglas Borough Council leader David Christian said: ‘The Council’s fireworks display promises to be a spectacular occasion, thanks to generous sponsorship from Celton Manx, the support of 3FM and the hard work of many of the Council’s staff and officers to ensure spectators are in a safe and secure environment to enjoy the show.’

Celton Manx executive director Bill Mummery said: ‘Celton Manx is pleased to be sponsoring this community event once again. The Council’s fireworks are always an exceptional display made all the more enjoyable set to music and succeeds in attracting the crowds, not only from Douglas but also island wide. It is an eagerly anticipated community event that creates a great atmosphere in the town and which Celton Manx is pleased to be sponsoring once again.’

Entries for the Best Guy competition must be submitted between 6.30 and 6.55pm at the staged area in the vicinity of the war memorial where spectators are urged to gather to enjoy the display and music to best advantage and where catering outlets will be located.

The former promenade cycle way will be closed between the northernmost end of the Marine Gardens on Harris Promenade and a point opposite Castlemona Avenue from 4 to 9pm on Friday November 7th.

Additionally parking will be suspended from 3 until 9pm on Harris Promenade east side where traffic will be restricted to a single lane (southbound) between Broadway and a point opposite the northernmost end of the Marine Gardens from 6 to 8pm.  

In the interests of safety spectators are requested not to bring pets or their own fireworks, including sparklers, onto the site.
